Aunt Jackie's Flaxseed Gel

Hey Guys!

I was inspired by a Naptural85 cheat perm rod set video and I wanted to try it on my hair. I didn’t have any homemade flaxseed gel or larger perm rods laying around so I used what I had on hand at the time. I have been wanting to try Aunt Jackie’s don’t shrink flaxseed elongating curling gel for a while now, so today I put it to the test. First, let's start with the product claims and we will end with my thoughts and style.

Cost: $8.99 USD (at my local beauty supply store)

Claims: No crunchy, stiff, straw-like feel! Super lightweight, gives hair bounce and stretch. No drying alcohols! Flaxseed helps prevent thinning, which offer a Propecia drug“better for your hair” alternative to others.

Give dry, shriveled up curls and twists a nice stretch with Aunt Jackie's special blend of moisturizing conditioners, Flaxseed, Shea Butter and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. With nourishing Omega-3 fatty acids, Flaxseed has been widely used as a natural remedy for hair growth, anti-thinning, and overall scalp health. With regular use, hair is left soft without a crunchy, tacky feel.

My thoughts: This gel does smell good, have good claims and is paraben-free! I like to start with the bad. First, let’s be clear,I have yet to find a product that elongates my hair without heat or forced stretching. Any and all products with water will cause my hair to shrink to some capacity.  I didn’t go in thinking that my hair would be its actual length after I applied the gel. Secondly, I can’t pronounce some of the ingredients, which is a cause for pause IF you are looking for an all natural product. Next, I did notice some flaking in the front. My hair was soft on the day I took the style down, however it became dryer (not brittle but dry if that makes sense) and the sheen went away.

The good, the smell of this gel is appealing to the nose, its sulfate, paraben, mineral oil and petrolatum free! And if I’m not mistaken, black owned! #BlackExcellence Given that I was doing a roller set, I wasn’t going for an elongated style, however, the gel did its job. Next go-round I would like to see, how this product lays my edges. For now, I am 50/50 on a repurchase, as my current fav Long-Aid Curl Activator is holding it down in the gel department.
