Recipe from Chef Elana

Before I get into my thoughts on this recipe let me give you a brief review of plated. What drew me to plated was that customers are able to select every meal that you want to receive. In my mind it was like I told someone I wanted these three meals now ship me the groceries, which is absolutely amazing.

Pros of Plated:
  • Personalized Plans:
  • Serving Sizes: Options for 2, 3 or 4 serving sizes available. Also you can adjust the quantity of meals you wish to receive based on the amount of nights you wish to cook

  • Cost per serving: All meals are $12 per serving
  • Delivery Flexibility: You an change your delivery day week to week
  • Eco Friendly packaging: Each package contains 100% recyclable materials. Each box is packed with non-toxic, non-hazardous gel packs to which I re-freeze and re-use to take to lunch for work!  Reduce, reuse, recycle--Hey, Earth Day is coming up! Cmon people the power is yours! lol

Now to the CONs:

  • Inconsistent packing: I ordered two boxes, and both boxes where packaged differently, which I thought was interesting. The first box was a little more scattered, and the items weren't as nicely packaged as my second box. I understand contents can be moved due to delivery trucks, however the first box wasn't organized like the second box.
  • Bland Ingredients: So far I ordered the meals below and unfortunately the meals tasted a little more than and I typically like my food. I prefer rich, hearty meals and I found that the ingredients lacked that (with the exception of the saucy meatballs).
  1. Salmon Burgers with Chives Aioli and Mache
  2. Cheesy Loaded Baked Potato with Roasted Tomato Soup
  3. Cheesy Black Bean Burritos with Pico De gallo and Guacamole
  4. Saucy Meatball Sliders and Classic Caesar Salad (MY FAVORITE!!)
  5. Baked Pene with Roasted Mushrooms and Ricotta (I didn't end up cooking this one)
  6. Thai beef lettuce wraps with basil rice

  • Pricey: I think all of the subscription boxes are pricey so this is nothing new. But I just wanted to comment this. To be fair, for the sheer convenience of ordering and not having to tackle grocery lines after 5pm. I can let the price slide.

All in All, had I not tried Hello Fresh or Blue Apron I think I would have really enjoyed plated. I feel because this company is new to the game they still have room to grow and have the opportunity to join the rankings of Hello Fresh!
Until next time loves! XOXO B
